Srinagar, May 28: A joint team of security forces in Anantnag district has apprehended two hybrid terrorists responsible for the recent attack on a tourist couple in Pahalgam. Officials reported the recovery of arms and ammunition from their possession.
On May 18, two tourists were injured when terrorists opened fire in the Yannar area of Anantnag district. The victims, identified as Farha Jan and Tabrez Ahmad from Jaipur, Rajasthan, were targeted while visiting the region.
A police spokesman confirmed that the joint operation involved the J&K Police, CRPF, and the Army’s 3 Rashtriya Rifles. The security forces successfully solved the case, leading to the arrest of the two hybrid terrorists involved in the attack.
The arrested terrorists have been identified as Waseem Ahmad Shah of NambalMattan and Adnan Ahmad Beigh of SK Colony in Anantnag town. “A pistol, a magazine, eight pistol rounds, one grenade, and 120 AK rounds have been recovered from their possession,” the spokesman said.
The incident on May 18 saw terrorists targeting the tourist couple, resulting in injuries to both Tabrez and his wife, Farha, in the Yannar area of Pahalgam hill station.
On the same day, terrorists also shot dead a former Sarpanch in the Hurpora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district. The victim, Ajaz Ahmad Sheikh, was attacked near his home in the Hurpora locality of Shopian.
Police have registered FIRs in both cases under relevant sections of the law. Investigations are ongoing, with officers working to establish the full circumstances surrounding these terror crimes.
