Srinagar, Oct 30: Security forces have foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district by killing one terrorist, officials said on Monday.
A police spokesman said that in a joint operation that commenced yesterday (Sunday), the Army and Kupwara Police have successfully foiled an infiltration attempt in Jumagund area of Keran sector in which one terrorist has been killed.”
The search operation continues in the area, the police said.
A senior police officer told Rising Kashmir that from the past three weeks, there has been three infiltration bids in the multiple sectors of Kupwara.
He said that the security grid on the borders and within the hinterlands is alert and active to thwart nefarious designs of neighbouring country backed anti national elements.
Earlier on October 26, five Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were killed in a joint operation of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Army after forces foiled a major infiltration along the LoC in Machil Sector of Kupwara district in north Kashmir.
Officals said that during past eight months, there have been eight infiltration attempts along the LoC and 27 terrorists were killed during these operations.
General Officer Commanding (GoC) of the 28th Infantry Division, Girish Kalia said that the collective efforts of security forces have substantially improved the situation in the region, thus paving the way for development and tourism.
He said Kupwara has witnessed ten such infiltration attempts in the past eight months, resulting in the elimination of 27 terrorists. Additionally, substantial quantities of warlike stores and narcotics were seized from the neutralized terrorists.
“Despite these improvements, there remains a continuous endeavor from the other side of the border to disrupt peace in Jammu and Kashmir,” GoC added.
