Srinagar, Apr 06:, Director General of Police (DGP)Dilbagh Singhstated on Thursday that terrorism is declining rapidly and that security personnel are working hard to remaining the remaining terrorists.
He further stated that there has been no law and order issue in Srinagar or other parts of Kashmir, but the Divisional Administration would make the final decision on permitting Eid-ul-Fitr prayers in the coming days.
Speaking to media on the sidelines of a celebration in Bandipora, DGP Singh stated that terrorism is fast reducing and that security personnel are working hard to destroy the remaining militants.
“The number of terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, whether local or from Pakistan, is at an all-time low.”
He claimed that the youth, who were formerly drawn into terrorist activities by misleading propaganda, are now pursuing professions in competitive tests and sports.
“The youth and people have realised the false narrative that was being promoted from across,” DGP Singh said, adding that the people of Kashmir have rejected that narrative and are now contributing to peace.
Asked whether weapons and drugs delivered by drones remained an issue, DGP stated that police and CAPFs have had great success in foiling opponents’ plans to air-drop cash, IEDs, weapons, and narcotics using drones.
DGP appreciated the people’s cooperation on all fronts of policing and stated that the Police, Security Forces, and people of J&K will continue to work together to foil the goals of anti-peace elements .
He claimed that some elements are worried by the growing peace in J&K and are attempting to disrupt it. He stated that, in addition to J&K Police and other security agencies, it is the responsibility of the people to further cement this peace.
“Though the activity is less than what we have been noticing in the past, air-dropping of weapons through drones still takes place in many border areas. We have seized huge quantities of weapons, money and narcotics and such bids are continuously being foiled,” he said.
He said that police have launched a massive campaign to root-out drug menace in J&K and those involved in supplying drugs to other parts of UT and even Punjab are being tracked and strict action is being taken against them.
“JKP is running drug de-addiction centers across UT successfully to provide help and assistance to the affected persons and there are demands from other parts of J&K also on which we are working to expand these drug de-addiction centers wherever possible,” the DGP Singh said.
About whether Eid-ul-Fitr prayers will be allowed at Eidgah Srinagar as stated by Waqf Board chairperson DarakshanAndrabi, the DGP said that final decision will be taken by the Divisional Administration Kashmir.
“Srinagar has been peaceful and so are the other parts of Kashmir. There has been no law and order issue in Srinagar or elsewhere in Kashmir. Final decision about allowing Eid prayers at Eidgah will be taken by the divisional administration in the days ahead,” he said.
DGP further said that everything needs to be done in a balanced manner and there have been no reports of any disturbances related to law and order in Srinagar or other places.
“I want to thank the people for understanding the designs of pro-Pakistan elements who were provoking people to resort to stone pelting for their own vested interests and making them cannon fodder,” he said.
