SRINAGAR, July 26:In a major breakthrough, the Jammu and Kashmir Police successfully busted a terror module in Kulgam and apprehended DrRubani Bashir, also known as DrSabeel, for his involvement in motivating, funding, and providing logistic support to gullible youth in the district and adjoining areas, pushing them into terrorist ranks.
Additional Director General Police (ADGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar told Rising Kashmir that they have busted a terror module in Kulgam.
The Additional Director General Police (ADGP) for Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, praised the efforts of Kulgam police in dismantling this recruitment network.
He said special teams were constituted by Kulgam Police to track and search for this suspected person and was apprehended successfully.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman said after systemic efforts, one suspected vehicle was zeroed and an investigation was started in this matter.
“When the credentials of the vehicle were sought, it came to fore that this vehicle was being used by Dr.Rubani and accordingly, a special checkpoint was established at Ashmuji and Dr Rubani was apprehended, ’’ the spokesperson said.
Dr.Rubani Bashir, the son of late Bashir Ahmed Dar, a resident of Ashmuji in Kulgam, was identified and tracked down by special teams formed by the Kulgam Police. Investigations revealed that Dr.Sabeel, a Ph.D. scholar at the Central University of Kashmir, had also applied for an assistant professor position at the university.
According to a police spokesman, Dr.Sabeel had a longstanding association with Jamat-e-Islami, having been a member of its student wing (IJT) Islamic Jamat-ul-Tulbha for 14 years before becoming a full-fledged member of JEI. Operating clandestinely, he worked for proscribed terrorist organizations such as HizbulMujahideen (HM) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). His modus operandi involved identifying vulnerable youngsters, motivating them with extremist ideologies, providing financial support, and ultimately facilitating their induction into terrorist outfits.
During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Dr.Rubani Bashir had already influenced two youngsters to join the ranks of terrorist organizations. Acting on his disclosures, the police arrested the two terrorist associates, Fazil Ahmed Parrey and Tariq Ahmed Naikoo, who were linked to the HM/JeM terror outfit.
The apprehension of Dr.Sabeel and his accomplices led to the recovery of significant arms and ammunition. One Chinese Pistol, one Pistol Magazine, and nine 9mm rounds were found in possession of Dr.Rubani Bashir, while an AK-47 Magazine and 19 AK-47 rounds were recovered from Fazil Ahmed Parrey. Additionally, a Chinese grenade, 10 AK-47 rounds, and an Alto car bearing registration number JK18B-4852, used for transporting terrorists, were seized.
A case has been registered at Police Station Kulgam under relevant sections of the law, and further investigations are underway to uncover any other potential links to the terror network.
