Srinagar,Nov 22:  Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DPG), Dilbag Singh Tuesday said that terror environment has almost ended in north Kashmir and security challenges are being reviewed from time to time.
Addressing the media on the sidelines of the inaugural event of Bindass Chowk in Baramulla town in north Kashmir, he said the terror environment in the north Kashmir region has ended now and as per the need of people, the developmental works are being carried away.
“The security challenges are being reviewed from time to time and vital police infrastructure is being upgraded, repaired and renovated also. During this many vital projects were inaugurated and public darbar was held at Pattan,” he said.
DGP said the number of local terrorists in the Kashmir region has been brought down to two digits while a very smaller number of foreign terrorists were active in the valley and are being tracked down.
“Anti-terrorist operations are going on and very soon remaining terrorists will be eliminated as well. I hope that peace will prevail in the entire Kashmir,’’ he said.
The police Chief said hybrid terrorism is still a challenge as the handlers across the border had been luring the young boys, providing them weapons for the execution of targets. Recently many cases have surfaced in which young boys were lured.
“I am happy that more than 100 modules of hybrid terrorists have been busted by police and security this year and strict action will be taken against them he said adding that Hybrid terrorism is a challenge but security agencies will overcome it.
Regarding the online threats to Media persons, DGP Singh said “Kashmir fight blog runs from Pakistan. The people of Kashmir have seen this game of death at the behest of ISI for more than 30 years. Those sitting in Pakistan who cannot see the peace of the people of Kashmir, this blog belongs to them, he said.
“Media people do not forward the agenda of Pakistan, so they have also become their enemies. Today the people of Kashmir love peace and progress, that’s why threats are being given. Strict action will be taken against those behind it,” DGP said adding that police is keenly monitoring its activities.
He said they have also issued threats to policemen, elected representatives of the people, and others. It is unacceptable and highly condemned. Police will investigate the whole matter and we have already registered FIR in the case.
DGP’s later unveiled the statue of Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh, a policeman who was killed during an encounter on May 25 in the Baramulla district.
Mudasir was killed during an encounter with terrorists in the Kreeri area of Baramulla in May this year. In the same encounter, three foreign terrorists were also killed by the security forces.
