Srinagar, Mar 4:In a significant collaborative effort, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Minister ParshottamRupalajoined hands to inaugurate a Technology Exhibition-cum-Seed Mela at SKUAST Kashmir, marking a pivotal moment in the region’s agricultural development.
The two-day event, which showcased cutting-edge innovations in agriculture, underscored a shared commitment to boost agricultural productivity and empower farmers in Jammu and Kashmir.
Union Minister Rupala lauded the Lieutenant Governor-led administration for its efforts in revitalising the agriculture sector and fostering innovation-driven startups. He unveiled plans for an Aqua Park in J&K and pledged full support for enhancing livestock production and establishing modern fish markets, thus ensuring increased livelihood opportunities for local farmers.
Expressing gratitude for the government of India’s support, Lieutenant Governor Sinha emphasised the crucial role of SKUAST-Kashmir in driving agricultural reforms and harnessing the region’s potential. He highlighted the significance of events like the Mela in facilitating knowledge exchange, technology dissemination, and market linkages for farmers.
With the theme “From Green and White Revolution to Blue Revolution: Cold Water Fisheries a Game Changer in J&K,” the Mela aimed to usher in a new era of agricultural transformation, leveraging the abundant water resources in the region.
Efforts are underway to extend insurance benefits to the livestock sector, ensure effective implementation of PM FasalBimaYojana, and provide tap water connectivity to every household in J&K by June. Additionally, the inauguration of the Silage Making Unit at KVK Ganderbal reflects efforts to promote fodder conservation and enhance livestock productivity.
The launch of Krishi Radio aims to facilitate communication among the farming community, driving agricultural transformation. The Lieutenant Governor highlighted the Holistic Agricultural Development Programme (HADP), which seeks to transform subsistence agriculture into a sustainable commercial agri-economy, promoting diversification and resilient agricultural practices, thus fostering growth in the agricultural sector.
Efforts are also underway to empower farmers and tribal communities, with plans to distribute individual rights under the Forest Rights Act and extend the working period of seasonal teachers.
