Udhampur, Jan: The Sanskrit Department of Government Women’s College (GCW) Udhampur organised a symposium on the topic Importance of Sanskrit Language.
The event, held under the guidance of Principal Dr. Nalini Pathania, aimed to highlight the significance of Sanskrit as the mother of all languages and its contributions to various fields of knowledge. Dr. Om Prakash, Head of the Sanskrit Department, commenced the programme by emphasising the importance of Sanskrit in modern times. He explained that the ancient knowledge contained in Sanskrit spans ethics, science, religion, yoga, Ayurveda, and more, and lamented the decline in its understanding, which has prevented India from reclaiming its historical position as a global leader in intellectual pursuits.
Dr. Seema Sharma from the Music Department attended the event as the chief guest and praised the Sanskrit Department’s efforts to promote the language’s cultural and scientific relevance. The symposium featured ten participants who shared their perspectives on the importance of Sanskrit. The winners included Sakshi Nagara (B.A. 1st year) in first place, Sonam Seth (B.A. 1st year) in second, and Sonali Seth (B.A. 3rd year) in third. The competition was judged by Dr. Ravindra Kumar (Mathematics Department), Dr. Sushma (Dogri Department), and Dr. Ravi Kumar (Sociology Department).
Prizes were awarded to the winners at the conclusion of the programme. Dr. Mohinder from the Sanskrit Department delivered the vote of thanks, highlighting the scientific nature of Sanskrit and its lasting relevance. The event saw enthusiastic participation from around 80 students and faculty members, including professors Dr. Moolraj, Dr. Yashpal, and Dr. Pankaj Sharma.
