Rajouri, Nov 25: Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) on Friday commemorated the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof Akbar Masood said that violence against women cannot be tolerated in any context. He said ending violence against women needs a multidimensional endeavor. “It requires coordinated and sustained efforts from all of us across hierarchies in a professional and social setup,” he said.
A 16-day-long programme will feature important lectures and talks from faculty in different departments, sensitisation workshops, street plays, poster/slogan/short film competitions, panel discussions, and other awareness programmes.
On the opening of an event organised by the Centre for Hospitality and Tourism in collaboration with the NSS Unit of the university, two lectures were delivered by Dr Mamta Bhat, Assistant Professor, Environmental Sciences and Dr Shachi Sood, Assistant Professor Department of English.
A rally was also organised by the Internal Complaints Committee and NSS Women’s Wing of BGSBU. The students, faculty and scholars from various departments participated in the rally to express their solidarity and support for the victims of domestic, mental and sexual violence.
Addressing the rally, Dr Romina Rashid, the Presiding Officer of the Internal Complaints Committee, reiterated the awareness of constitutional rights given to women. Dr Pervaiz Abdullah, Coordinator of the NSS, emphasised the gathering to support women in times of adversity, especially during violence. Others present at the rally were Nabeela Nazneen, Mamta Chowdhary, Dr Saima Aslam and Rabiya Chowdhary.
