Srinagar, Jan 08: Security forces on Thursday recovered and safely defused a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) during a joint cordon and search operation in Rajouri district of Jammu division, officials said.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs about suspicious movement, a joint team of the Army and J&K Police launched a cordon and search operation on Wednesday in the forest area of Kallar in Dori Maal, falling under the Thanamandi area, officials said.
During the operation, the security forces detected suspicious material, which was subsequently examined and identified as a suspected IED weighing approximately four kilograms.
“Bomb disposal experts were immediately pressed into service, and the device was later neutralised through a controlled explosion,” officials said.
In addition to the IED, security personnel also recovered some empty cartridges from the site, which were seized for further investigation. The presence of the explosive device and ammunition indicates possible militant movement in the area, officials said.
Security forces have intensified searches in the surrounding forest belt to rule out the presence of any terrorists or additional explosive material. The operation was ongoing at the time of filing this report, officials added.
