Jammu, Dec 18: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member Raman Suri has hailed the recent decision by the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare to include Jammu and Kashmir Government pensioners under the ambit of the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS).
In a statement issued here, Raman said, “Until now, only Central government employees and pensioners were entitled to the benefits of CGHS. However, in a progressive move, the union government issued an order last month, broadening the scope of the scheme by including pensioners from the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir.”
Suri acknowledged this as a significant stride towards ensuring the welfare of J&K UT pensioners. He emphasized that the CGHS scheme, which encompasses various medical systems such as Allopathy, Ayurvedic, Unani, Homeopathy, Indian System of Medicine, and Siddha & Yoga, will now be accessible to a wider demographic.
The BJP leader highlighted the upcoming awareness camps planned by the CGHS officials across various parts of the Union Territory. These camps aim to educate pensioners about the benefits of the CGHS and guide them on how to avail themselves of this Central Government Health Scheme effectively.
The CGHS offers an array of benefits, including OPD treatment and medication charges, indoor treatment, diagnostic services at Government or CGHS-affiliated hospitals, child health services, family welfare, medical advice, and distribution of medicines. The scheme covers various treatments and procedures under Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology, and Orthopaedics.
Suri lauded the Union Ministry’s thoughtful step in extending the CGHS facilities to Jammu and Kashmir pensioners, underscoring the importance of seizing this opportunity for improved healthcare in the UT.
