Shopian, July 10 : Doctors in South Kashmir’s Shopian district have performed a first of its kind cancer surgery at a peripheral level.
The surgery was performed at Sub district Hospital Keller on a patient suffering from Kangri Cancer of the right thigh.
The team of doctors included Dr Abid Saleem, Dr Hilal and others.
Dr Abid Saleem said that an aged patient reported at Subdistrict Hospital Keller two weeks ago with ulcerative lesions of right thigh and USG documented Lymphadenopathy of groin. He added that investigations confirmed it as a case of squamous cell carcinoma and the patient was presented to the surgical outpatient department where after evaluation and anesthesia clearance, he was put on surgery today under high risk.
“Wide local excision of multiple SCC’s right thigh with en bloc right groin dissection was done under spinal anesthesia,” the doctor said, adding that the patient is doing well and shifted to postoperative ward in stable condition.
The doctor informed that Kangri Cancer is caused by using Kangri fire pot in close contact with thighs or abdomen.
The doctor advised people to use Kangri judiciously to avoid persistent irritation of thighs and abdomen skin by heat.
