Leader of Opposition in the J&K assembly, Sunil Sharma, met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss pressing issues affecting Jammu and Kashmir. Their meeting took on added significance given the region’s current political and social climate.

Sharma raised concerns about the growing drug and narcotics menace, highlighting the challenges posed by rising addiction. He also pushed for key mega-projects in Jammu province, focusing on road connectivity and tourism. Shah promised to look into these demands and take necessary steps.

Additionally, Sharma stressed the need to strengthen and extend Village Defence Committees (VDCs) and Village Defence Guards (VDGs) in Jammu and Kashmir, citing their crucial role in combating terrorism.

The recent terror killings, including the attack on an ex-serviceman’s family in Kulgam, were also discussed, with Sharma demanding complete rehabilitation and education for the victims’ families.

The Home minister assured every possible support to address the issues raised by Sharma. The Union Home Minister also pledged to meet with all BJP MLAs from Jammu and Kashmir, a move expected to bolster the party’s presence in the region and address lawmakers’ concerns.

The upcoming budget session of the J&K assembly, the present political scenario and Law & order issues of J&K especially Jammu District were also discussed during the meeting. As Leader of Opposition, Sharma’s meeting with Shah is seen as a significant step towards addressing the concerns of Jammu and Kashmir’s people.
