Budgam, June 01: The traffic movement on the Bailey bridge over Nallah Sukhnang, which connects Beerwah tehsil to the district headquarters Budgam and other villages, has been temporarily closed by the authorities in the Beerwah subdivision of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Ghulam Hassan Banday, one of the local residents from Beerwah Main Town, told Rising Kashmir that the Bailey Bridge was constructed by the Indian Army during 1990 for the smooth functioning of traffic movement. “During the year 2014, when the flood hit the Kashmir valley, the Bailey bridge upon the Nallah Sukhnang also got damaged. But it also got repaired at that time,” Banday said.
He said that since the year 2014, this Bailey bridge has been repaired from time to time as it has completed its life span.
He said that the government should provide another bridge through which this problem will be solved forever and traffic movement will not be affected more in the area.
An official from R&B division, Beerwah, said that due to the maintenance of the bridge, traffic movement has been closed for the next two days.
“The people should follow another route till the traffic movement upon the bridge is restored,” he said.
