Srinagar, March 10: The Health and Medical Education Department has informed the Jammu and Kashmir Government that the Sub District Hospital R.S. Pora is serving two constituencies, that is R.S. Pora and Suchetgarh and operates 24/7.
The information was provided by the Minister of Health and Medical Education in the Legislative Assembly in response to a question raised by MLA Ranbir Singh Pora–Jammu South constituency, Dr Narinder Singh, regarding the SDH R.S. Pura to learn about its basic healthcare facilities and steps taken to provide manpower needs.
The House was informed that SDH R.S. Pura serves two constituencies, R.S. Pura and Suchetgarh, and operates 24×7, providing testing, diagnostics, X-ray, and ultrasound facilities. The reply stated that out of 14 sanctioned doctor posts, 13 are currently filled. Similarly, out of 68 sanctioned non-gazetted posts, 49 are occupied. In response to a question on the shortage of medical and paramedical staff at the newly constructed PHC Gadigarh and the steps taken to make it fully functional, the reply stated that two posts of Medical Officers were sanctioned for NTPHC Gadigarh in 2020.
Out of these, one Medical Officer has been posted, while four out of five sanctioned paramedic posts are currently in position. The House was informed that the department is in the process of operating a waitlist for 91 selected Medical Officers, whose services will be utilized in underserved areas across J&K. Additionally, 181 Medical Officer posts are yet to be received from the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission. Once selected, these doctors will be posted in health institutions facing staff shortages, the Health and Medical Education Department stated in its reply. Furthermore, 292 vacancies in the non-gazetted/paramedical category under the Directorate of Family Welfare, Maternity and Child Health (MCH) and Immunization, along with 290 vacancies in the Non-Gazetted/Paramedics category, have been referred to the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (J&KSSB) for recruitment. This will significantly strengthen and improve the healthcare system.
