Srinagar, Nov 21: Students of Law College Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district visited the office of Kashmir Valley’s leading daily English newspaper on Tuesday as part of their academic curriculum.
The tour, integrated into their academic syllabus on Principles of Newspaper Design, provided a comprehensive understanding of crucial aspects such as Type Design, Page Makeup, Graphics and Photography, White Space Management, Continuation of Copy, and Optical Center.
Accompanied by their lecturers Mohd Aamir Malik, who teaches Media & Law, and Ms. Nadiya Riyaz (Legal Ethics), the students participated in informative sessions conducted by experienced team of Rising Kashmir.
Journalist Shafat Malik, Multimedia Editor Munazah Kanwal, Manager and Overall Monitoring head of Printing Press Ajaz Ahmad and Layout and Designing Section Head Sameer Bhat delivered lectures and offered valuable perspectives into the intricate art of newspaper design.
The lectures began with a comprehensive overview of what constitutes effective newspaper design. Students gained insights into the selection and arrangement of fonts, layout structures, and the strategic use of graphics to enhance visual appeal.
The lecture on the importance of white space, maintaining continuity in the flow of articles, and achieving visual balance contributed to a holistic understanding of the design process.
The students were given a firsthand look at the Layout and Designing section, where they received practical demonstrations and explanations on various design principles.
The students continued their tour to the printing press, where they witnessed the printing process which provided them practical insights into the entire newspaper manufacturing procedure.
