In order to make train travel more convenient, comfortable, safe, and economical, Indian Railways is updating its infrastructure and services with a strong focus on the needs of regular passengers. Indian Railways is bolstering a passenger-first strategy that puts regular travelers first through consistent investment, operational changes, and technology adoption.To keep up with the growing demand at reasonable prices, Indian Railways has produced a record number of general and non-AC coaches with contemporary passenger-friendly amenities. These coaches strengthen Indian Railways' dedication to inclusive and accessible rail travel by improving travel comfort and greatly expanding carrying capacity.Building on this foundation, Indian Railways plans to continue producing coaches for the current and upcoming fiscal years in order to bolster and update its passenger fleet. The production plan calls for 4,838 new LHB GS and Non AC coaches for the current fiscal year 2025–26, which is already in its final quarter (LS coaches: 2817, LSCN coaches: 2021). The production goal for 2026–2027 is 4,802 LHB coaches (2638 LS coaches and 2164 LSCN coaches). The goal of this planned production is to satisfy growing passenger demand while improving train service quality, safety, and comfort. Indian Railways greatly increased special train operations in 2025 to handle the seasonal and holiday rush. More than 43,000 special train trips—17,340 for Maha Kumbh, 1,144 for Holi, 12,417 Summer Specials, and 12,383 for Chhath Puja—were run, guaranteeing better passenger flow and convenience during busy times. During times of exceptionally high demand, these large-scale operations ensured smoother passenger movement, reduced congestion, and provided timely connectivity.After the Yatri Suvidha Kendra was successfully implemented at New Delhi Railway Station, Indian Railways has identified 76 stations nationwide for the development of passenger holding areas. Completed in four months, the New Delhi holding area can hold roughly 7,000 passengers and has free RO drinking water, automatic ticket vending machines, restrooms, and ticketing facilities. The new holding areas are expected to be finished before the 2026 festival season and will be designed in modular fashion based on local conditions.Indian Railways has improved ticketing integrity through Aadhaar verification and cutting-edge technological monitoring to guarantee that legitimate passengers receive confirmed tickets. Users' Aadhaar verification is a crucial step that has been taken to strengthen the system. Tatkal tickets can only be reserved by Aadhaar-verified users. Modern technology is also being used to detect and stop dishonest users from attempting to abuse the e-ticketing system. 5.73 crore suspicious and inactive IRCTC user accounts have been deactivated or temporarily suspended as a result, and additional action is still being taken.
