‘Strengthen interfaith harmony’: NC leaders join Christmas celebrations in Jammu

Jammu, Dec 25: Senior leaders of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) marked the auspicious occasion of Christmas by participating in prayer meetings and celebrations at prominent churches in Jammu.
Dr Mustafa Kamal, Additional General Secretary JKNC and former Minister, was accompanied by Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President, Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary, and Waris Gill, President of JKNC Christian Cell.
The senior NC leaders attended a solemn prayer meeting at St Paul’s Church, Residency Road, Jammu, where they joined the Christian community in offering prayers for peace, harmony, and prosperity. They later participated in festive celebrations at another church located in New Plot, Jammu.
Extending his heartfelt Christmas greetings, Dr Kamal said, “On this joyous occasion, I convey my warm felicitations to the Christian community and the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Christmas embodies the universal values of peace, goodwill, and compassion, which resonate deeply with the ideals of our party. We must collectively strive to strengthen interfaith harmony and negate any attempt to create discord in society. May this Christmas bring happiness and prosperity to all.”
Rattan Lal Gupta, while addressing the gathering, emphasized the significance of unity in diversity. “The spirit of Christmas reminds us of the importance of love, generosity, and unity. Jammu and Kashmir has always been a symbol of communal harmony, and it is our duty to uphold these cherished values,” he said. He reiterated the commitment of the National Conference in fostering communal harmony and wished the Christian community a blessed Christmas.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed highlighted the National Conference’s commitment to inclusivity and respect for all faiths. He added, “Our party has always stood for the rights and dignity of every community. Celebrating such occasions together reinforces our shared bond.”
Waris Gill, Chairman of the JKNC Christian Cell, expressed gratitude to the party leadership for their active participation. “The National Conference has always been a beacon of support for minorities. Today’s celebrations are a testament to our collective vision of peace and progress,” he said.
Those who were present on this occasion: Bimla Luthra, Vijay Laxmi Datta Senior leader, Rita Gupta, Dilshad Malik, Vice Presidents Central Zone, Sardar Tejinder Singh District President Jammu Urban YNC, Sapna Gill Block President Jammu East Women wing, S. Gurnam Singh Block President Jammu West, Vijay Luthra, Mohinder Kumar Rana Joint Secretary Central Zone, Jyoti Akbar, Mr Akbar Som Raj Taroch, S. Attal Singh Block President Jammu North A YNC and others.
