Srinagar, Aug 02: In a unique celebration of culture and environmental consciousness, the State Taxes Department Kashmir organized an enthralling Rangoli Making Competition on Wednesday, in line with the ongoing Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav festivities. The event took place at the Excise and Taxation Complex, Solina Srinagar, and was graced by the participation of various State Taxes Circles from across Kashmir.

The Rangoli Making Competition, held under the theme “Meri Mati Mera Desh,” beautifully combined the essence of traditional Indian art with a modern environmental sensibility. The intricate and vibrant designs were crafted using a range of organic materials, including colored rice, flower petals, and organic powders, under the watchful eyes of esteemed dignitaries.

Notably, the Commissioner of State Taxes for Jammu & Kashmir, Dr. Rashmi Singh (IAS), demonstrated exceptional leadership by personally visiting each in-house circle to observe and appreciate the art of rangoli making. Dr. Singh was accompanied by Additional Commissioner of State Taxes Kashmir, Shakeel Maqbool Yatoo (ICAS), and DC Enforcement (Central) Kashmir, creating a symbolic display of administrative commitment to cultural preservation and ecological responsibility.

During the visit, Dr. Rashmi Singh stressed the significance of upholding the cherished tradition of rangoli while advocating for the adoption of sustainable practices. Her encouragement for the use of organic materials in the creation of rangoli designs showcased her commitment to cultural heritage and the environment.

The creative efforts of the participants culminated in a stunning array of rangoli designs that demonstrated both artistic prowess and a deep-rooted connection to nature. After careful deliberation, the Rangoli crafted by DC Appeals I&II emerged victorious, receiving accolades for its impeccable design and exemplary use of materials.

The event forms part of a larger two-week celebration leading up to the 76th Independence Day, known as Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The program aims to instill a sense of unity and patriotism among citizens, fostering a shared appreciation for the country’s cultural heritage and historical significance.

As part of the continuing celebrations, a Restoration Drive is scheduled at Doodhganga and a Cleanliness Drive at Nilnag on August 03, 2023. These initiatives will be conducted in collaboration with the Mining Department, showcasing the synergy between various governmental bodies in promoting both environmental preservation and cultural enrichment.
