Ganderbal, Oct 15: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmed Poswal on Wednesday urged students to build confidence, develop leadership qualities, and work with commitment to excel in life. The SSPwas speaking during a function at Government Degree College (GDC) Kangan, organised in collaboration with District Police Ganderbal to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Addressing a gathering of students and faculty members, Poswal said such platforms provide young people with the exposure they need to grow into confident and responsible citizens. “These events provide students with an opportunity to express themselves. Every student should come forward and participate in discussions and seminars to overcome hesitation,” he said. The SSP stressed that confidence in communication, writing, and presentation is essential for every aspiring leader. “Confidence shapes public perception and defines your personality as a leader,” he remarked. Reflecting on the life and contributions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Poswal described him as a visionary planner who played a historic role in uniting India after Independence. “Patel was not only the Iron Man of India but also the architect of our nation’s administrative and internal security structure. The integration of princely states, settlement of refugees, and restoration of peace after Partition bear testimony to his leadership,” he said. He underscored the importance of character, commitment, conviction, courage, and courtesy as essential traits of a good leader. “Refine your character through introspection, stay committed to your goals, and never hesitate to correct your mistakes,” he advised. Encouraging students to pursue specialisation and enhance their skills, the SSP said the world today demands quality over quantity. “There is no shortage of opportunities, but there is a shortage of quality people. Be clear in your goals, work hard, and focus on excellence,” he said, adding that even challenges in life should be seen as lessons for growth. Poswal further advised students to use technology constructively and explore innovative ideas for self-reliance and entrepreneurship. “You don’t need huge investments to succeed — only vision, teamwork, and commitment,” he said. The SSP urged students to remain positive, disciplined, and dedicated towards nation-building. “Work hard, stay confident, and become assets to your community and the country. You are the future of the nation,” he said. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of SHO Kangan Lateef Ali and from students and faculty members who paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, recalling his immense contributions to the unity and development of India.
