PSC on H&UA team reaches Kashmir, takes stock of Smart City projects
Srinagar, May 11: A Parliamentary Standing Committee (PSC) on Housing and Urban Affairs (H&UA) arrived in Kashmir on a four-day visit on Sunday to review the ongoing development and beautification projects, with members of the delegation inspecting works along the Jhelum riverfront and other key locations in Srinagar.
Soon after arriving in Srinagar, the delegation visited several Smart City projects, including Jhelum River Front in Raj Bagh, Balidan Stambh at Pratap Park and Clock Tower (Ghanta Ghar).
Speaking to the media persons, Member of Parliament (MP) and member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs, Mahima Kumari Mewar, said the committee would strongly advocate for necessary support and resources for Jammu and Kashmir after witnessing extensive development works underway across the region.
Mewar said the delegation inspected the Jhelum riverfront development works and appreciated the beautification and restoration efforts carried out along the riverbanks.
“We visited the Jhelum River and saw the ongoing development works there. The entire project has been executed remarkably well,” she said.
Mewar said the committee, led by its Chairman Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, aims to ensure adequate funding for the maintenance of such projects and to improve public convenience. “Our Committee's primary objective is to ensure that adequate funds are allocated here to sustain proper maintenance and maximise the comfort and convenience of residents,” she added.
Highlighting the committee’s role, she said the delegation was identifying areas requiring improvement and financial assistance so that development initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir could be further strengthened.
Asked about the region’s progress, Mewar said the delegation was closely reviewing the requirements of the Union Territory and would recommend support wherever necessary. “It is our utmost priority to do everything within our power for Jammu and Kashmir. We take immense pride in the people of this land,” she said, adding that the delegation would also visit Gulmarg and other locations during its four-day tour of Jammu and Kashmir.
