Pulwama: A youth from Srinagar has established a state of art snooker club in Pulwama, a first of its kind facility in this southern district. The snooker club has been set up by Shadab Khan, a resident of Srinagar, for promoting this royal sport among local youth of Pulwama.
Shadab, a post graduate in business administration and seasoned snooker player, told Rising Kashmir, that it was his long-cherished dream to establish such a facility.
He added that in Srinagar there are many such clubs but Pulwama had none. Shadab said he is familiar with many youths from Pulwama who are enthusiastic about this sport.
“The club was set up to provide such youth a platform to hone their skills and take it next level,” he said, adding apart from state of art sporting infrastructure they have hired professional snooker coaches for training the local youth.
Shadab said that Snooker is a recognised sport played in many countries of the world after gaining popularity from England where it was labelled as gentlemen’s game.
He said that the game serves both sporting and recreational purpose. “It inculcates discipline and sharpens thinking,” he said, adding that the sport has a potential to engage youth constructively.
Shadab believes that professional Snooker has a tremendous scope in India and youth should take part in it to prove their mettle at a higher level.
