Srinagar, Apr 24: In a bid to foster electoral literacy and civic engagement, the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) and National Service Scheme (NSS) of Srinagar Women’s College, Zakura, orchestrated a thought-provoking mascot-making competition on Wednesday.
The event, held under the umbrella of Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), saw an influx of students showcasing their artistic prowess and electoral acumen.
Under the meticulous guidance of Dr.Tehmina Yousuf, the esteemed Principal of the College, the competition unfolded as a platform for students to manifest their understanding of the democratic processes, with ‘Elections 2024’ as its central theme.
The competition drew vibrant participation from numerous students, each unveiling their unique interpretations and creative renditions of electoral significance. Following a rigorous evaluation process, the judging panel, led by Dr. Farhat Hassan, Head of the Department of Music, announced the deserving winners:
Ms. Arbeena Nisar – Claiming the coveted first place.Ms. Ifshana Ashraf Securing the esteemed second place.Ms. Morifat Hilal Garnering recognition with the third place honor.
The culmination of the event witnessed Prof (Dr) Tehmina Yousuf commending the participants for their ingenuity and emphasizing the imperative of exercising their voting rights to shape the democratic landscape. Beyond fostering artistic expression, the competition served as a conduit for instilling a profound understanding of electoral processes among the student fraternity.
Such initiatives spearheaded by the Electoral Literacy Club stand as pillars in fortifying civic awareness and promoting active participation in democratic exercises. As the nation strides forward into the electoral sphere of 2024, the resounding success of this event echoes a resolute commitment towards a more informed and participatory citizenry.
