Ganderbal, April 14: Authorities on Sunday temporarily closed the Srinagar-Leh highway after multiple avalanches occurred at two to three locations along the Zojila Pass.
As a result of the closure, traffic has been stranded on both sides of the highway, causing inconvenience to commuters.
Project Vijayak and the Border Roads Organization (BRO) have announced plans to commence snow removal operations once the weather conditions improve.
The closure of the highway was prompted by moderate to heavy snowfall in areas such as Sonamarg, Zojila, and Drass, with Kargil also experiencing light snowfall. Drass, known as one of the world’s coldest places after Siberia, has witnessed particularly harsh weather conditions.
Officials are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as the situation evolves.
