In the outskirts of Srinagar’s HMT Zainakote area, two brothers, Uzair and Umair Shafi Dar, are crafting a unique blend of technology with sheep farming. Uzair, a software engineer with a fervent passion for innovation, and Umair, a dedicated student and part-time electrician, have embarked on an inspiring journey of sheep farming.

Speaking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Uzair said, “What started as a modest venture with just a handful of sheep has now blossomed into a thriving farm boasting over 40 sheep of diverse breeds.”

We started with just a few sheep and today without any governmental support, we have managed and nurtured the farm with a range of diverse sheep breeds, he said. At the heart of Uzair’s vision along with his younger brother lies an ambition to tap technology with traditional farming practices.

He said that with his expertise in software development, he is diligently crafting specialised software aimed at streamlining sheep farming. Uzair claimed his novel innovative tool will revolutionise record-keeping by tracking the birth cycles and lineage of each sheep, providing invaluable insights for efficient management.

“I have already begun laying the groundwork for the software, focusing on developing robust algorithms and sophisticated analytics,” he said. Beyond technological prowess lies his brother Umair’s hands-on approach to farm management, from monitoring fodder supplies to ensuring timely vaccinations. Umar said, “Our sheep are exclusively farm-raised, receiving top-tier care and attention.

We prioritise their nutrition and health, ensuring they thrive in their natural habitat.” For the Dar brothers, their farm represents more than just a livelihood as it embodies a vision of sustainable prosperity. With their eyes set on the upcoming Eid-Ul-Adha festival, they are gearing up to showcase their reared sheep, confident in their ability to provide quality produce and fetch good sales—(KNO)
