Srinagar, April 19: Inspector General of Police Vidhi Kumar Birdi visited the families of those missing in the Gandbal boat capsize on Friday and offered sympathy to them.
The IGP also visited the spot to review the ongoing rescue operation, stating on the occasion that every effort is being made to retrieve the bodies of the missing persons.
Currently, several teams, including NDRF, SDRF, Marcos, River Police, and others, are on the job, exerting all efforts to trace the missing trio.
In this difficult time, “we stand with the bereaved families and hope for an early retrieval of the missing persons,” he stated. “Our teams are on standby despite the bad weather, and the rescue operation is underway.”
“The families are in shock, and we are exerting every effort to find the missing persons. We are hopeful that the bodies will be recovered soon. I have also visited the affected families who have lost their loved ones in the tragic incident. It is a difficult time, and we share the grief with them,” he added.
It is worth noting that the rescue operation entered its fourth day on Friday, and there is still no trace of the missing trio, which includes a father-son duo.
The authorities are exerting every effort to retrieve the missing persons, even though some experts have voluntarily started a search operation in the locality.
On Tuesday, a boat carrying 15 persons capsized in the middle of the Jehlum, resulting in six deaths. Six others were rescued, and three remain missing, with efforts ongoing to retrieve them.
