Over 35,000 participants expected: SSP

Srinagar, Apr 28: The Jammu and Kashmir administration is set to organise a grand foot march in Srinagar on Sunday under the ongoing 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan, expecting over 35,000 participants, with traffic police laying down a plan to ensure peaceful and smooth conduct of the event.

Officials informed Rising Kashmir that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will flag off the mega foot march, aimed at raising mass awareness against drug abuse.

Several meetings have been conducted in the past week in Srinagar to finalise arrangements and assign responsibilities to different departments for the event.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Srinagar City, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, said the upcoming grand event is a challenging task, but they have laid down a plan to ensure peaceful traffic management. "Nearly 30,000 to 35,000 participants are expected to reach Srinagar for the event," he said.

As per the traffic advisory, vehicles coming from south Kashmir districts will be allowed to park at Rajbagh, while vehicles from North Kashmir districts will be parked at Jehangir Chowk. The SSP added that a detailed traffic advisory plan will be rolled out shortly.

The event is part of intensified efforts under the 100-day campaign to spread the message of a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.
