Srinagar, 02 August: In a bid to enhance the overall travel experience for passengers, the Srinagar International Airport has announced plans to expand its facilities.
The authorities are focussing on a people-centric approach to ensure the convenience and satisfaction of travellers, officials said.
Srinagar airport is the third highest profit-making airport for the Airport Authority of India (AAI) after Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Airport, Kolkata and Pune airport.
Srinagar airport generated profit of Rs 20.16 crore for AAI while Kolkata and Pune airports generated profit of Rs 145.28 crore and Rs 39.13 crore, respectively.
Director Srinagar Airport, Javed Anjum told Rising Kashmir that they secured the 3rd rank in profit making and it is a positive trend. Over the past several years, facilities at the airport have been upgraded, he said.
Anjum highlighted that the primary focus of the upgrade is to enhance passenger services, streamline airport operations, and accommodate the increasing number of visitors to the region.
“We are committed to providing a world-class experience to every passenger passing through Srinagar Airport. Our people-centric approach revolves around meeting the needs and expectations of our travelers, ensuring their comfort, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and security,” he said.
Director said the proposed expansion includes buildings to offer more spacious waiting areas, additional check-in counters, and improved baggage handling facilities.
He said one aspect of the development that is yet to be completed is the installation of body scanners. These scanners are crucial for ensuring thorough security checks while minimizing the inconvenience caused to passengers during the screening process.
Responding to these concerns, Anjum assured the public that the installation of body scanners is a top priority for the airport authority.
He stated, “We are working diligently to address this issue and ensure the highest level of security for all passengers. The installation process is complex, and we are collaborating with relevant authorities to expedite its implementation without compromising on quality,” Anjum said.
He further said the safety and security of passengers are of paramount importance, and remain committed to incorporating the latest technology to ensure a safe and smooth travel experience for everyone.
Director further said that they are also celebrating aviation security culture week. He emphasized that Srinagar Airport remains committed to upholding the highest standards of security, reassuring passengers that their safety and well-being are top priorities.
He said the Aviation Security Culture Week is an essential initiative that not only strengthens security measures but also fosters a sense of community and shared responsibility among all stakeholders involved in the aviation industry.
