Srinagar Oct 21: With an aim to promote healthy nutrition and food habits among people, a Walkathon was organized by the District Administration Srinagar in collaboration with the Food Safety Department here on Saturday at Government Girls High School Chattabal.
The Walkathon was held on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad as a part of the ‘Eat Right Initiative India’ campaign and celebrating the year 2023 as ‘International Year of Millets’.
The Walkathon was flagged off by Chief Education Officer Srinagar, Mohammad Shabir and Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar, Yameen Ul Nabi, which witnessed participation of hundreds of students, besides officials and the local citizens.
The Walkathon organized by Food Safety Department Srinagar was conducted to raise awareness about the importance of adopting a balanced and nutritious diet, with a special emphasis on millets, a highly nutritious grain that plays a vital role in food security and nutrition.
Speaking about the Walkathon, the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad highlighted the significance of the ‘Eat Right Initiative India’ and the importance of millets in our daily diets. The DC also urged the students to promote healthier eating habits in their schools family.
He said by celebrating the ‘International Year of Millets 2023,’ we are also shedding light on the sustainable and nutritious benefits of millets.
