Kulgam, May 11: As many as 60 sheep were crushed to death after a tempo vehicle allegedly ran over the herd along the national highway at Khudwani in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday-Saturday night.
Pervaiz Ahmad, a resident of Lammer Kulgam, said they had left from Lammer the day before and were planning to take them to Dachigam. On the way near Khudwani on the national highway, their livestock met with an accident.
Ahmad said that at around 12:30 am, a tempo vehicle ran over the herd of sheep, killing as many as 60 on the spot. “We have registered a case with the police, and they have taken the driver into custody. Two of our people are in the hospital as they too were injured in the accident,” he said.
Another man accompanying the herd of sheep said that the tempo driver ran straight over the herd of sheep moving along the highway.
“Two of our persons are injured, while as many as 60 sheep were crushed to death, with dozens more injured. It was a herd of around 350 sheep,” he added.
Meanwhile, a health official said the injured persons visited the hospital. He said that for proper examination, they were sent to GMC for a few tests and were stable and well.
