Speaker nominates members to 9 committees of J&K LA

Srinagar, May 28: In a move to strengthen the legislative oversight, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly speaker Abdul Rahim Rather on Wednesday nominated members to nine committees of the House.
The nominations have been made under various clauses and rules of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Assembly with the tenure of the committees until 31st March, 2026.
The Ethics Committee has been constituted under Clause 1 of Appendix-I to the Rules of Procedure with Surjeet Singh Slathia as the Chairman of the committee and members as Javaid Iqbal, Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed (Pardesi), Zafar Ali Khatana, Rafiq Ahmad Naik, Dr. Sajjad Shafi, Arvind Gupta, Daleep Singh, Surinder Kumar, Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh, and Mehraj Malik.
The Committee on Government Assurances, formed under Rule 361, will be chaired by Sajad Gani Lone with members nominated to this committee are Choudhary Mohammed Akram, Javaid Ahmad Mirchal, Iftkar Ahmed, Hilal Akbar Lone, Mian Mehar Ali, Mohan Lal, Dr. Sunil Bhardwaj, and Shagun Parihar.
Under Rule 341, the Committee on Petitions has been set up with Pirzada Farooq Ahmed Shah as Chairman and members as Mushtaq Guroo, Salman Sagar, Waheed Ur Rehman Para, Mian Mehar Ali, Vijay Kumar, and Thakur Randhir Singh.
The Committee on Privileges, formed under Rule 350, will be chaired by Nizam ud din Bhat and its members include Vikram Randhawa, Riyaz Ahmad Khan, Salman Sagar, Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed (Pardesi), Javaid Riyaz, Javaid Iqbal, Dr. Narinder Singh Raina, and Dr. Bharat Bhushan.
In accordance with Sub-rule (1) of Rule 355, the Committee on Subordinate Legislation has also been formed with Hasnain Masoodi nominated as Chairman and the committee includes Reyaz Ahmad Khan, Hilal Akbar Lone, Shabir Ahmad Kullay, Satish Kumar Sharma, Kuldeep Raj Dubey, Rajeev Kumar, Irfan Hafiz Lone, and Dr. Rameshwar Singh.
The Committee on Environment has been constituted under Clause 1 of Appendix-I with Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami as the Chairman and members of the committee ad Peerzada Mohammad Syed, Rajiv Jasrotia, Dr. Sajjad Shafi, Peerzada Feroze Ahmad, Zafar Ali Khatana, Khurshied Ahmed, Mushtaq Guroo, Irshad Rasool Kar, Yudhvir Sethi, and Darshan Kumar.
The Speaker has also constituted three Financial Committees for the year 2025–2026. The Public Accounts Committee will be headed by Sham Lal Sharma as Chairman, the Estimates Committee will by Shamim Firdous, and the Committee on Public Undertakings will be led by Ali Mohammad Sagar as Chairman. Each of these committees will include ten members from among the legislators.
