Srinagar, Sept 18: Special polling stations across South Kashmir witnessed an overwhelming voter response on Wednesday, with all 24 constituencies recording significant participation. Voters proudly shared selfies on social media, showcasing their enthusiasm for the election process.
Many voters expressed gratitude to the Election Commission of India (ECI) for setting up special polling stations, which were designed to accommodate people with disabilities and ensure an inclusive voting experience for all.
Bilkeesa, a female voter from Anantnag, lauded the introduction of “Pink Polling Stations,” exclusively managed by women. “Setting up pink polling stations for women is empowering,” she said. “It makes us feel safe and secure, and it’s a source of pride to see the station fully run by women.”
The Election Commission established a number of special polling stations, including 24 Pink Polling Stations, 24 managed by specially-abled individuals, and 24 staffed by youth. Additionally, 24 Green Polling Stations were set up to raise awareness about environmental issues, while 17 unique polling stations were created with innovative themes.
The Red Polling Stations, specifically designed for disabled voters, also saw strong turnout, reflecting the success of the ECI’s inclusive initiative.
All polling stations were equipped with essential facilities such as drinking water, electricity, toilets, ramps, and furniture. Wheelchairs were provided, and separate queues were arranged for senior citizens and disabled individuals. Each station also had a voter help desk, managed by the Booth Level Officer (BLO), to assist voters with any queries.
The innovative setup and the enthusiastic participation of women and disabled individuals made this election a standout event in South Kashmir.
