Baramulla, May 06: A man from Warpora, Sopore, has been sentenced to six months in jail and fined Rs 8 Lakh by the Chief Judicial Magistrate in a cheque bounce case under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instrument Act.
Ghulam Mohiuddin War, son of Hayaat War, was found guilty of the offence and was handed the sentence on Saturday.
The court also ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 8,00,000, which is double the cheque amount.
An official said that Chief Judicial Magistrate Sopore sentenced the man to 6 months simple imprisonment in a cheque bounce case and also imposed a penalty of Rs 800000.
“The guilty has been sentenced to six months in prison for committing an offense under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instrument Act,” the official said.
“In addition, he has been fined Rs 8,00,000, which is double the amount of the cheque involved in the case.”
