Ganderbal, Feb 11: The traders’ union of the fire-affected market in Sonamarg has expressed satisfaction after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the area to assess the damage and assure support.
Beopar Mandal Association Sonamarg President Shabir Ahmad Lone, while speaking to Rising Kashmir, said the traders are relieved that the Chief Minister personally came to review the situation after a massive fire destroyed over 46 shops.
“We have raised our demands, including the establishment of a permanent fire station in Sonamarg and compensation for the affected shopkeepers. Many of us have taken bank loans, and we have also requested an interest waiver to ease our burden,” Lone said.
He added that CM Omar Abdullah assured the traders of all possible help, promising immediate relief and rehabilitation measures.
“The Chief Minister’s visit was a significant gesture, showing the government’s commitment to helping those affected by this devastating fire. However, we now need swift action in terms of financial aid and rebuilding support,” Lone stated.
Meanwhile, at least 46 shops were damaged in a devastating fire incident in Sonamarg two days ago, causing significant property loss to shopkeepers and business owners in the area.
