Akhnoor, Jan 30: Son of a vegetable vendor Rahul Sharma a differently abled cricketer from Akhnoor town of Jammu is all set to represent team India as wicket keeper Batsman in upcoming three matches T-20 series in Chennai on 22nd, 23rd and 24th February.
Rahul Sharma has earlier represented for Jammu Kashmir Divyang Cricket Team at National Level where after impressing the selectors he has been now selected for Indian Divyang Cricket Team. With the news of Rahul’s selection in Indian Divyang Cricket Team a large number of people were gathered at his residence at Akhnoor town to greet Rahul Sharma for creating history.
SSP Mohan Lal Bhagat (JKPS) also went to his home and while congratulating him he said that Rahul is an inspiration for youngsters in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that Rahul has brought laurels for the whole area and there is great sense of pride among the locals. He said that Rahul being differently abled has set an example that anything can be achieved but one needs to be passionate and dedicated for his goal. He assured his full support for his further endeavours. He appealed to the gathered youth to become like him and bring fame for their parents, society and nation in whole.
Yuva Kalyan Samiti a social organisation of which Rahul is also an active member also turned to felicitate for his selection in Indian Divyang Cricket Team. The volunteers of Yuva Kalyan Samiti comprising Vivek Sharma, Rakesh Bhagat, Atul Sudan, Retd. Captain Santosh Sharma, Sukhdev Singh, Rohit Sharma, Sahil Sudan, Shubham Rajput, Deepak Bhardwaj, Ashu Sharma, Abhishek Verma, Ashok Sharma, Mukesh Verma garlanded Rahul Sharma and presented him the memento and a token of respect. Sushil Sharma Chairman J&K Disable Welfare Trust along with his team also felicitated Rahul Sharma on the occasion. In his address he appealed to the government to provide all facilities to the divyang cricket team at par with regular Indian Cricket team.
Rahul Sharma while speaking on the occasion has given the credit of his selection to his parents who allowed him to pursue cricket as his profession and his coach/mentor Sham Singh Langeh who provided him a platform to explore his talent. His parents said that Rahul is so passionate for his cricket that even sometime in the midnight when all are sleeping, they listen to his bat knock while practicing. They wished him good luck for his coming matches.
