Ganderbal, March 17: The snow clearance operation on Zojila Pass is in full swing from both sides, as reported by Beacon officials to Rising Kashmir.
The arduous task, commenced last week, faces significant challenges due to heavy snowfall and avalanches, particularly at critical points such as Pani Matha, Chini Nallah, Captain Morh, and Bajri Nallah.
Officials are optimistic about completing the operation within the next week, contingent upon favorable weather conditions. However, the mammoth task is compounded by avalanches burying the road under 50 to 100 feet of snow, posing a severe challenge to the Border Roads Organization (BRO) despite relentless efforts.
The closure of the Srinagar-Ladakh Highway, attributed to heavy snow, might extend further as efforts continue to clear the pass. Project Vijayak from Matayan Side has successfully cleared snow up to Zero Point, while the BRO has made significant progress from the Baltal Side, reaching India Gate.
Acknowledging the unprecedented snowfall, both the Border Roads Organization and Project Vijayak have pre-positioned heavy machinery and laborers on either side of the Zojila pass, underscoring the collective effort to restore connectivity amidst nature’s formidable display of force.
