Jammu, Jan 23: In a significant achievement, a team of students from the School of Mechanical Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), secured the 11th position out of 600 teams at the prestigious Vishwakarma Awards 2024.
Organised by Maker Bhavan in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad, the competition centred around the theme of “Clean and Green Technology.” The SMVDU team impressed the judges with their innovative invention—a non-electric automatic pothole-filling machine. This eco-friendly solution addresses a critical issue in infrastructure maintenance by offering a sustainable and efficient method for repairing potholes. The team was led by V. Yash Raj and included Saatwik Sharma, Sahaj Pratap Singh, and Zafir Ashraf Beigh. Their project was guided by Dr Sanjay Mohan, whose mentorship was instrumental in refining the design and execution of the invention.
The Vishwakarma awards are renowned for recognising talent and fostering sustainable development through cutting-edge technology. Competing against a diverse and highly skilled pool of teams, the SMVDU students stood out for their practical, environmentally conscious approach and their commitment to innovation.
