JAMMU, May 28: After two months of development, the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (JKPDD) is set to introduce an upgraded system and new software for online payment of power dues in Smart Metered areas.
This system aims to streamline payments for consumers, enhancing convenience and efficiency.
The upgraded software is expected to become functional in a few days, with final testing and other modalities being completed. Until the new system is operational, consumers are advised to continue making payments via the ‘Bill Sahuliyat’ platform.
Raman Rathore, a senior officer of the department, explained the necessity of this upgrade. “The existing online payment system has seen its sunset and become obsolete,” he stated.
Superintendent Engineer,Karam Chand confirmed the launch of the new system. “The new upgraded software with an upgraded system of online payment of power dues will be introduced within a couple of days,” he told Rising Kashmir. “A high-level meeting was convened today to sort out the issue for the convenience of consumers,” he added.
The defunct nature of the old online payment system has caused significant inconvenience for consumers in Smart Metered, prepaid areas. Although the current system still accepts online payments, it fails to update pending dues accurately.
This has led to confusion and frustration among consumers, many of whom received inflated bills despite having paid their dues online.
Karam Chand acknowledged these issues and emphasized the need for the new system. “The old online payment system is now obsolete, and there is a need for an advanced and upgraded system, which has been developed,” he said.
As consumers await the rollout of the new payment system, the JKPDD assures that the transition will alleviate the billing issues and improve overall user experience.
