Srinagar, March 18: The government of India has recently directed Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) to complete the project before the June deadline. However, officials of SSCL said they would complete this project before the deadline.
General Manager of Srinagar Smart City, Anuj Mahalotra, said the work on the smart city projects is underway in the downtown area of Srinagar, and the rest of the projects have been completed by them. He said that these projects being executed in the downtown area are significant and will be completed before the deadline.
According to the data, out of 158 projects, 93 have been completed by them, and work on all remaining projects is going on in full swing. The officer added that when they started the works under the smart city project, there were queries from the people that no work was being carried out by SSCL in the downtown area. Currently, all the work is going on in the downtown area, and that too will be completed before June.
The five-year project worth over Rs 1000 crore began in 2018, and the official said the majority of the projects have been completed, which include the redevelopment of Srinagar Square, which also includes Ganta Ghar, River Front, Polo View, and a cycle track.
The first deadline for the smart city project was December 2023; however, due to some reasons, the deadline couldn’t be met. Recently, the Government of India has directed the smart city officials to complete this project before June this year.
The officer said they have implemented double shifts for the completion of the prestigious project. Adding to that, they are hopeful that in the coming two months, most of the projects will be completed. “We are working around the clock to complete it at the earliest, and we are confident the project will be completed promptly.”
