Jammu, Mar 03: No development or beautification work in Jammu and Kashmir will now be taken up under the Smart City project till the formation of the new government at the Centre, which will be formed after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, sources said.
Various development and beautification works under the ambitious Smart City Project have been going on in J&K’s capital cities – Jammu and Srinagar.
Some development and beautification projects under the smart mission have been completed, while work on the others has been going on in both Jammu and Srinagar.
General Manager, Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL), Ashish Anand said only the work on the ongoing projects under the Smart City Mission will continue. No other new project/work under Smart City will be taken up till the formation of the new government at the Centre, he said.
“No new project, whether development or beautification, will be undertaken,” Anand said.
He added, “How many works will be allotted and undertaken under the Smart City mission in J&K will depend on the decision of the new government.”
The Tawi River Front, which is being developed on the lines of the Sabarmati River Front of Gujrat, is yet to be completed in Jammu.
The main dream project of e-buses under the Smart City mission has already been completed as eco-friendly vehicles have been made operational in both Jammu and Srinagar.
In Jammu, the ever-busy Jewel Chowk and Talab Tillo Road have been widened due to which the frequent traffic jams in the city have almost gone, giving much relief to the people.
Narwal Mandi and Apsra roads have also been beautified under the Smart City mission. The multi-tier parking at General Bus Stand Jammu has further provided relief to the people by providing parking space thus easing the traffic congestion.
Above all, the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) installed in both Jammu and Srinagar under the Smart City mission has streamlined traffic besides curbing various traffic violations.
