Srinagar, Dec 06: In a significant move towards enhancing online facilities, the Smart City buses in Srinagar are set to introduce the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), announced by Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) officials on Wednesday.
CEO of the Smart City project, Ather Amir Khan, expressed hope about the impending integration of NCMC cards, emphasizing the benefits for passengers.
Acknowledging the diverse user base, Khan assured that elderly individual, facing challenges with digital apps or card usage, would still have the option to pay manually. To ensure compliance and discourage fare evasion, the SMC has issued a Fare Matrix for Srinagar Smart City Electric Buses.
CEO Khan warned against traveling without a ticket, emphasizing that it constitutes an offense with heavy fines. He detailed the fare structure, with prices ranging from 10 to 40 rupees based on the distance traveled.
Highlighting the user-friendly initiatives, Khan unveiled the Srinagar Smart City Electric Bus Route Network.
Passengers can access route information through a map and track live bus locations and schedules on the CHALO App. The network aims to cover major city routes, providing convenient interchange points for seamless travel.
Anuj Malatora General Manger Smart City Srinagar, speaking to Rising Kashmir, revealed that NCMC cards are in process with government.
He said once approved; these cards will offer a convenient payment method for commuters.
Addressing concerns for elderly passengers, officials assured the availability of assistants who will guide and facilitate fair payment for those who may require assistance.
The Smart City project recently launched 75 electric buses to alleviate traffic congestion in Srinagar. This concerted effort signifies a positive step toward a technologically advanced and efficient public transportation system, heralding a new era of smart mobility in the city.
