Srinagar, May 03: After three days of inclement weather in Kashmir, the prevailing weather conditions improved significantly on Wednesday afternoon, with the Meteorological Department forecasting fair to overcast weather in the Himalayan region.
Director MeT, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that rains lash on Wednesday in maximum parts of Kashmir and towards afternoon weather improved significantly.
Lotus forecasts fair to partly cloudy weather in Kashmir from the May 4to 6.  He predicts a brief period of showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening hours.
“On the May 7and 8, Western Disturbances will hit the Valley again, and rains will lash most places in the Valley,” Lotus added.
As the weather improved, the maximum temperature in Srinagar on Wednesday late evening was 19.7 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature was 10.4 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam’s minimum and maximum temperatures were 14.6°C and 5.2°C, respectively. The maximum temperature in Gulmarg was 8.5 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was 3.5 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperature in Jammu was 26.7 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was 18.6 degrees Celsius.
According to a traffic police department spokesman, the Srinagar-Jammu highway was closed for one hour and one minute due to a bigTrailor breakdown in the middle of the road at Ramban bazar, while Mehar was closed for 45 minutes due to restoration work.
“The Tunnel authority closed the NAVYUG Tunnel for 04 hour 39 minutes, resulting in a total blockage of 06 hours 25 minutes.” “There was also a breakdown of 10 HMVs and the movement of 12 nomadic flocks between Nashri and the NAVYUG Tunnel,” stated the spokesperson.
On Thursday, subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic, he said.
On Sonamarg-Leh highway, one way traffic from Srinagar towards Kargil will be allowed. These vehicles shall be allowed from Sonamarg, LMVs at 0630 hrs. to 0730 hrs followed by HMVs upto 0930 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timing, the spokesman said.
