SKUAST, KVK Ganderbal organises prog on ‘Climate Resilient Technologies’

Srinagar, Nov 26: KVK Ganderbal organized Awareness cum Training Programme on Climate Resilient Technologies for Sustainable Farming Practices in Kashmir Valley in collaboration with Division of Environmental Sciences, SKUAST-K on 26th November 2024 at KVK campus. The programme provided valuable insights into issues of environment degradation & pollution, resource conservation, judicious use of pesticides and fertilizers & climate resilient strategies for sustainability of future. The programme was attended by Scientists & Supporting Staff of KVK & SKUAST-K, students & teachers of local colleges & farmers.
The programme started with introductory address by Dr. Faiqa Syeed, Scientist KVK Ganderbal. A comprehensive & exhaustive overview of Climate Resilient Technologies with focus on resource conservation & management, use of greener technologies for achieving sustainability was shared by Prof. Farooq Ahmad Lone, Senior Professor, Division of Environmental Sciences, SKUAST-K. He appraised the gathering about the importance of organic farming, resource conservation, integrated farming systems, waste management & reuse/recycling for ensuring a better living space for future generations.
On the occasion, Prof. Ishfaq Abidi, Chief Scientist & Head, KVK highlighted the importance of environmental sustainability to address key environmental concerns & emphasized on systems for resource conservation. He highlighted the need of resource conservation, prevention of soil erosion, land restoration & conservation, with focus on drought resilience strategies. In the second session, Scientists of the KVK Dr. Rafiya Munshi, Dr. Farooq Ahanger, Dr. Shaheen Farooq & Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi gave detailed lectures about Processing of Fruits & Vegetables, Application of Drones in Agriculture, Horti-Poultry Model for increasing farmers income & Integrated Farming Systems in Horticulture respectively. The participants were taken on a field visit across the campus of the Farm for demonstration of IFS Model in the KVK, which was enlightening & encouraging for them.
The proceedings concluded with Interaction cum Feedback Session, wherein participants raised significant queries, which were deliberated on by the Scientists. The participants, particularly students and teachers expressed deep gratitude for the programme and wished for more programmes in future. The session concluded with formal vote of thanks by Dr. Shaheen Farooq.
