Srinagar, Jul 12: Dryland Agriculture Research Station (DARS), SKUAST-Kashmir, under AICRP on Potential Crops, on Saturday organised a one-day training programme on ‘Promotion of Potential Crops’ at DARS-SKUAST-Kashmir. The programme, sponsored by ICAR-NBPGR, New Delhi, was attended by 50 officials from the Agriculture Department belonging to different zones of the Valley. Prof (Dr) Ajaz Ahmad Lone, DARS-Rangreth, SKUAST-(K), gave a brief insight into the potential crop scenarios of the valley and their relevance in the current changing climate era. Prof M. Ashraf Bhat, Associate Director of Research, DARS-SKUAST Kashmir, addressed the participants about the role of the station in developing new and improved crop varieties for the overall benefit of the farming community, focusing on food and nutritional security. The programme included a series of talks by different subject matter specialists on various aspects of potential crops. An interaction session was also held, during which different issues faced by line department officials in their respective areas were deliberated upon. The participants expressed appreciation for conducting such training and expressed the desire to organise more similar programmes in the future.
