Srinagar, Jan 15: The Directorate of Extension at SKUAST-Kashmir has launched 10 three-day training programs focused on the preparation of Nutri-mix formulas for pregnant and lactating women.
These programs, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission (JKRLM), are being conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture in Wadura, Sopore, as well as at all Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) across Kashmir Valley.
The event was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Kashmir, who praised the efforts of the university’s scientific community for organizing such an impactful initiative. He highlighted the importance of education as a tool for economic empowerment, emphasizing that food and nutritional security are critical for the health of pregnant and lactating mothers, ensuring the well-being of future generations.
The Vice Chancellor also expressed appreciation for the work of JKRLM in facilitating women-friendly schemes, emphasizing the need for the convergence of schemes and their impact analysis for better results. Dr. Shubra Sharma, Mission Director of JKRLM, commended the Vice Chancellor and the scientific team for their efforts in organizing the training programs and recognized the mission’s role in empowering women through such initiatives. Rafiq Ahmed, District Program Manager, provided an overview of the program’s objectives and structure.
The event also featured Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, as a distinguished guest. Participants included program coordinators, KVK staff, scientific staff from the Directorate of Extension, officials from JKRLM, and beneficiaries from self-help groups across the Kashmir.
