Srinagar, Jan 02: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir kick-started a weeklong training on ‘Value Addition and Product Development of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants’ at the Benihama campus and held a one-day awareness program on ‘Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Medicinal and Aromatic Plants.
The programs were organised by the SKUAST-K’s Division of Forest Products and Utilization, Faculty of Forestry, under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Govt of India.
Head, Division of Forest Products and Utilization, Prof PA Sofi, gave a comprehensive overview of the training program, emphasising the immense potential of medicinal and aromatic plants in developing a diverse range of products. Dean, Faculty of Forestry, Prof SA Gangoo, highlighted the vital role of Medicinal and Aromatic plants in livelihood generation. Prof Gangoo emphasized the significance of value addition in enhancing farmers’ income and shed light on various medicinal plants indigenous to Kashmir, stressing their potential for product development. Dr Tahir Mushtaq, the Training Coordinator, gave an overview of the training.
