Srinagar, Nov 05: After adding the fourth mandate of innovation and entrepreneurship to the existing three mandates of teaching, research and extension, SKUAST-Kashmir has seen a surge in innovations leading to earning of all forms of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) viz. patents, copyrights, designs and trademarks.
Following the slogan ‘Patent to product’ the innovative technologies are being commercialized by the university and the demand for these products is increasing in the market. With the aim to foster innovation and excellence in research and entrepreneurship development, the university has also setup a full-fledged center ‘ SKUAST-Kashmir Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship Center (SKIIE)’ in the main campus at Shalimar.
Given to the relevance of these patents earned by university, many of these are now available as commercial products & services. By recently winning a patent for natural herbal capsule for diabetes care during this year, SKUAST-Kashmir has created history of bagging 20 patents in year 2024. The patent has already been converted into a commercial product and is marketed as Diabetix. This patent and the other patents related to drug discovery reflect the growing expertise of varsity scientists in healthcare innovation.
