SKUAST-K concludes training prog on Biopesticides

Srinagar, Feb 13: The Division of Entomology, FoH, SKUAST-K under the HADP-18 initiative on “Minimization of Pesticide Use in Agriculture,” successfully concluded a seven-day training programme entitled “Biopesticides: An Eco-friendly Tool to Combat Modern-Day Challenges of Insecticide Predicament in an Agri-Ecosystem” held from 5th – 11th February, 2025.
The valedictory function commenced with Prof. Shaheen Gul, Course Coordinator of the training programme, presenting a recap of the seven-day programme. The ceremony was graced by Prof. Shabir A. Wani, the Chief Guest, who highlighted the crucial role of biopesticides in reducing pesticide dependency and promoting environmentally sustainable pest management solutions. In the address, Dr. Zakir Hussain, Acting Head of the Division of Entomology, urged all stakeholders to work collaboratively in promoting sustainable agriculture by incorporating biopesticides into Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programmes. The event also witnessed the presence of distinguished scientists from Division of Entomology and various constituent units of the University.
The participants of the training programme comprised professionals from Line Departments and students from SKUAST-K, reflecting a diverse and engaged audience committed to sustainable pest management practices. The training programme was enriched by expert resource persons from various divisions of SKUAST-K, ensuring a multidisciplinary and comprehensive learning experience.
The training programme reaffirmed the University’s dedication to equip agricultural professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to maximize crop yields, reduce reliance on chemical pesticides, safeguard agro-ecosystems, enhance food quality, and contribute to the vision of ONE HEALTH.
