Srinagar, Sept 11: In a transformative step towards modernizing agriculture in Jammu and Kashmir, the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-Kashmir) has entered into a strategic partnership with Jain Irrigation Systems Limited. The two entities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 9, 2024, with the goal of delivering smart, technology-driven agricultural solutions to the region’s farmers.
The agreement was formalized by Professor Nazeer Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Kashmir, and Mr. Ajit Jain, Joint Managing Director of Jain Irrigation Systems Limited, during a ceremony held at Jalgaon. The collaboration is aimed at revolutionizing agricultural practices in Jammu and Kashmir by leveraging state-of-the-art irrigation systems, precision farming techniques, and sustainable farming solutions.
These efforts are focused on addressing the region’s unique environmental challenges, such as water scarcity, harsh climatic conditions, and limited arable land, while ensuring increased productivity and sustainability.
Ganai, emphasized the significance of the partnership: “This MoU marks a critical step forward in our mission to empower the farmers of Jammu and Kashmir. By integrating smart technologies and sustainable farming practices, we are equipping our farmers with the tools they need to boost productivity, conserve water, and ensure food security in the region. This partnership will significantly enhance the agricultural landscape, driving innovation and resilience in the face of changing environmental conditions.”
Mr. Ajit Jain, Joint Managing Director of Jain Irrigation Systems Limited, echoed these sentiments: “We are honored to partner with SKUAST-Kashmir to bring cutting-edge irrigation and farming technologies to the farmers of this region. Through precision farming and smart irrigation systems, we will help optimize the use of resources like water and fertilizers, leading to sustainable agricultural growth. This collaboration reflects our commitment to improving farmers’ livelihoods and contributing to food security while preserving the environment.”
Through this collaboration, farmers in Jammu and Kashmir will have access to tailored solutions that promote innovation and adaptability, helping them tackle current and future challenges in agriculture. The initiative aims to create a sustainable agricultural ecosystem that balances productivity with environmental conservation.
