SKIMS celebrates World Health Day

Srinagar, Apr07:World health day was celebrated today at SKIMS on this year’s theme of WHO “Health for all”. The event was organized by the Department of Hospital Administration SKIMS.
Director SKIMS & EOSG Prof Parvaiz A. Koul who was the chief guest on the occasion in his address highlighted the main issues concerning the health system across the world. He said there is huge inequity in availability of health care-huge expenditure, mental illness, pregnancy related mortality etc. are still prevalent. In India despite the improvement in health delivery lack of accountability, unrelated drug policy, misuse of antibiotics are areas of main concern, he added. Prof. Koul stressed on uniform access to health systems and said onus lies on health care professionals and underlined the importance of healthy ageing. He further said that SKIMS is excelling in digital health care delivery and received 90% positive feedback for its services from general public. He thanked Department of Hospital Administration for organizing the event and expressed hope that the deliberations will be fruitful for participants attending the event.
Dean Medical Faculty SKIMS Dr. Bashir A. Laway in his address said that despite progress at many levels the non-communicable diseases still remain the main challenge. He also congratulated the Department of Hospital Administration for conducting this academic program.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Dr. Farooq A. Jan in his address underscored the importance of celebrating the world Health Day. He highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of the health system and said that inequalities in health system needs to be addressed. Low cost of care, insurance schemes like Ayushman Bharat are the main strengths in existing health system, however, unregulated private sector, lack of accountability, medical errors, antibiotic resistance need to be focused on.
Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir assumed charge of Principal, Amar Singh College
Srinagar, Apr 07: Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir assumed the charge of Principal, Amar Singh College, Srinagar and Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges. 
Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir has served the department of higher education in various capacities and was transferred to Amar Singh College from Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Srinagar.
Consequent upon the superannuation of Prof. Bashir Ahmad Rather, who superannuated on March 31, 2023. Known for his dynamic academic and administrative acumen, Prof. Sheikh Ajaz was given a warm welcome by the staff council and was received by Secretary Staff Council Prof. Nayeem Ahmad Khan and the entire staff at Amar Singh College. 
In his maiden meeting with the faculty Prof. Ajaz extended his gratitude to the staff at Amar Singh College, for their welcome and enthusiasm. He pointed out a many institutional developmental plans and assured his all time support for the betterment of the college, so that a new chapter of success story is written in the history of Amar Singh College. Later Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir took stock of the developmental works and was briefed about the preparations for NAAC Peer Team visit scheduled on May 24 & 25, 2023, by Coordinator IQAC, Dr. KousarMuzamil. 
This is in place to mention here that, Prof. Sheikh Ajaz has also been assigned the charge of Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges, owing to his vast administrative experience and efficient deliverance. 
The staff council was all grateful to the Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department, and the entire administration of Higher Education Department for posting Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir as the new principal of the college. The staff thanked for his maiden meeting and pledged of all » support to the principal.
