Ski lift at Sonamarg yet to made operational

Srinagar, Jan 26: Despite the assurances, the Cable Corporation department has failed to make ski lift operational in Sonamarg, giving tough time to skiers.
After the installation of a ski lift at Sonamarg, the skiers were hoping that facilities for them would be put in place by early this year.
A skier from Ganderbal told Rising Kashmir that “they hoped the lift would be operational this year and that they would receive some advanced training, but they didn’t know why the department had failed to make this lift operational thus far.”
He said he was hopeful that they would not be forced to visit Gulmarg for ski courses this year, but they have no choice but to visit the ski resort for better training, which is impossible at Sonamarg without the ski lift,.
In Sonamarg, some basic ski courses are taking place, but there are no basic amenities put in place by the department for the skiers.
The visitors previously complained that the place lacks heating and water facilities in the tourism department huts.
According to an official, the major work on this ski lift has been completed but some parts are still awaiting delivery. After their completion, the lift would be made operational.
Skiers have asked that higher-ups to press the concerned department to make the lift operational as soon as possible.
